Star Cinema’s advertising and promotions manager Mico del Rosario revealed that ”Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy,” the 2nd Best Picture winner of this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), crossed the milestone in nationwide earnings on Friday.

On Friday, Vice Ganda thanked those who have seen the film on ABS-CBN’s noontime show ”It’s Showtime.”

The film, directed by Wenn Deramas, was also named the Most Gender-Sensitive Film in the main competition. Screen veteran Maricel Soriano won Best Actress for her role as Vice Ganda’s mother.

When asked on whether he prefers to have a blockbuster movie or a multi-awarded film, the comedian answered, “Blockbuster.”

“Kasi wala pa naman akong acting award kaya okay na ako sa blockbuster,” he said.

Other MMFF entries include “My Little Bossings,” “Pagpag: Siyam na Buhay,” “KimmyDora: Ang Kiyemeng Prequel,” “10,000 Hours,” “Boy Golden: Shoot to Kill (The Arturo Porcuna Story),” the historical biopic “Pedro Calungsod: Batang Martir,” and the dance musical “Kaleidoscope World.”

Vice Ganda chose neither to deny nor confirm rumors romantically linking his fellow “It’s Showtime” co-hosts Billy Crawford and Coleen Garcia after a photo of the two watching an NBA game in New York City recently went viral online.

Since Billy broke up with his 5-year girlfriend Nikki Gil, rumors have been circulating that his new apple of the eye is his co-host Coleen.

In an interview by MJ Felipe on Monday, Vice said he is not in the position to confirm or deny anything.

“Alangan namang umamin or tumanggi ako for them. Kung may karapatang gumawa nun, sila ‘yun. Sila ang may obligasyong gumawa nun para sa tao,” the comedian added.

What Vice Ganda can confirm, he said, is that both seem to be individually happy.

“Alam ko masaya si Billy. Alam ko masaya si Coleen,” he explained.

“Si Coleen kasama ko kanina, masaya naman kaming nagkuwentuhan. Si Billy nakaka-text ko almost every night, masaya naman siya,” he added.

Asked if he is happy for his co-hosts as well, Vice Ganda gave out a hearty laugh and quipped: “I am happy for everyone.”

So, what do you think? Are the two exclusively dating or in a relationship? Or just really good friends?

Comedian Vice Ganda aired his side over the reported rift between him and friend, Kris Aquino, after their respective film entries competed in the recent Metro Manila Film Festival.

Issues broke after the comedian was honest enough to say that he wants his film, “Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy,” to beat Kris Aquino’s “My Little Bossings” in this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival.

Earlier, Aquino did not deny that their friendship was affected by the box office rivalry of their films.

After the “It’s Showtime” host renewed his contract in ABS-CBN on Monday afternoon, he assured that everything is in good shape between him and his “Sisterakas” co-star.

“Okay kami kasi nag-uusap pa din kami. Kagabi, magkausap pa din kami. Sabi niya, ‘Oy congrats magko-contract signing ka na, tapos ako naman ang susunod,’” Vice Ganda said.

“Kaya nga lang hindi kami nakapag-usap (ng personal) kasi umalis nga siya. Pero noong nandoon siya sa London nagte-text pa din kami. Tinext niya, ‘Hoy, I just bought you a pair of Louboutin.’ Tapos sabi ko, ‘Thank you.’ Tapos sabi niya, ‘Sa akin may gift ka ba sa akin?’ Sabi ko, ‘Wala pa eh. Ano ba ang gusto mo? ‘ Tapos hindi siya sumagot. ‘Hindi ka na sumagot feeling ko di mo na iaabot ‘yung gift ko kasi wala pa akong gift sa iyo.’ Tapos tumawa lang siya. So sobrang okay kami,” he narrated.

Vice Ganda, meanwhile, emphasized that the supposed rift came about because both of them really worked hard for their respective movies.

“Siyempre kaya nagkaganoon ay pareho naming kinarir ‘yung dalawa naming pelikula. Sobrang karir siya, sobrang karir din ako. ‘Yung panandalian di muna namin naiisip ‘yung friendship. Ang naiisip lang namin ay kailangan naming karerin ang pareho naming pelikula,” he explained.

During the recent MMFF, “My Little Bossings” edged “Girl Boy Bakla Tomboy” during the first week when festival organizer Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) regularly gave updates on the box office performance of the film.

However, the fourth MMFF movie of Vice Ganda surpassed the Php400 million mark in gross earnings on Friday, setting a new box office record and beating the 2012 comedy flick “Sisterakas.”

The production team behind “My Little Bossings” has yet to release the latest figures of its box office performance.

On Monday, Vice Ganda stressed he is really happy about the success of “My Little Bossings,” which marked the movie debut of Aquino’s son James “Bimby” Yap Jr.

“Happy para sa kanila at para sa akin siya din naman ay happy siya,” Ganda assured.

On Monday’s episode of “Kris TV,” Aquino admitted that the rivalry of the two films affected her friendship with the “It’s Showtime” host.

“Let’s be honest: Siyempre may effect sa amin. ‘Lakas talaga,’ ganoon ang sabi niya. Then I told him, ‘Tapos na ‘yan ha?’ Sabi niya, ‘Oo naman. Nagulat lang ako na ganon sila kalakas.’ Tapos sinabi ko, ‘Bata eh.’ ‘Yun lang. Since that time, we’ve been texting. We are okay,” said Aquino, who is also one of the producers of “My Little Bossings,” along with veteran comedian Vic Sotto.

Comedy flick “Girl Boy Bakla Tomboy” starring Vice Ganda as four different characters made history on Thursday as the highest grossing Philippine film of all time, according to producer Star Cinema.

The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry which won 2nd Best Picture at the annual film festival, has earned P427 million since opening on Christmas Day.

The ABS-CBN’s film outfit announced the achievement during a thanksgiving party attended by director Wenn Deramas, network executives including President Charo Santos-Concio and Star Cinema head Malou Santos, and co-producer Viva Films’ June Rufino.

For a greater part of the MMFF’s two-week run, another comedy film, “My Little Bossings,” led the eight competing entries at the box office. However, in the days leading up to the festival’s closing on January 7, organizers reported that “Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy” ruled the daily grosses.

The latter film crossed the P400 million milestone at the box office on January 10, and at the time already beat the record set by another comedy film, “Sisterakas,” in 2012.

“It’s Showtime” co-host Anne Curtis turned emotional as the noontime program offered a prayer for Vhong Navarro on Saturday.

The noontime program opened with a moment of silence, a day after news surfaced that Navarro has been hospitalized following an attack by a group of men inside a condominium unit in Taguig last Wednesday.

“Lord God, as we bow our heads with heavy hearts, We ask Lord that you play your healing hand upon our brother, Vhong,” Curtis said, sobbing. “Bigyan niyo po siya ng lakas. Paramdam niyo po sa kanya yung pagmamahal niyo, na malaman niya na nandiyan ka lang Lord para sa kanya. You will help him get through this. We pray Lord God for his speedy recovery. He will stand tall and he will be saved.”

“We ask you give him comfort, his family comfort. You give everyone that he loves comfort during this time of trial. Lord we lift him up to you that he will be healthy again, he will get through this. Just be with him during this time of tiral. May he know that not only are his friends, his family, his followers, may he know that we are not the only ones there for him.”

“Vhong, we love you and we’re here for you,” she said.

“It’s Showtime” co-host Jhong Hilario was in tears during the noontime program’s live telecast on Tuesday, when he failed to control his emotion involving co-host Vhong Navarro, who is now engaged in a legal battle after being attacked last week.

As one of the judges in the “That’s My Tomboy” segment of the program, Hilario was asked for his thoughts on the four contestants, who each gave a speech relating a personal experience leading up to the grand finals on Saturday.

Hilario started to get emotional when he singled out contestant No. 10, April Mariz Herher, who he said moved him with her story about friendship.

Pausing as he appeared to contain his emotions, Hilario’s voice was then heard breaking as he said, “Gusto ko lang sabihin na hindi madali ‘yung ginagawa namin dito sa ‘Showtime.’”

“Sorry, direk, sorry,” Hilario added, before walking out.

Also appeared to be emotional were Anne Curtis, Vice Ganda, Karylle, and Billy Crawford, who were co-hosting “That’s My Tomboy.”

The hosts went on with their spiels in wrapping up before a commercial break.

The program then resumed with the remaining “That’s My Tomboy” grand finalists taking the stage, with co-hosts Jugs Jugueta and Teddy Corpuz replacing Hilario as one of the three scorers.

Hilario is a long-time friend of Navarro and fellow Streetboys member, came amid news of the actor-host’s legal battle as he continues to recover from a mauling incident last week.

Navarro, meanwhile, narrated everything that happened in an exclusive interview of “Buzz ng Bayan” aired Saturday, January 26.

Hours after the exclusive interview was aired, two personalities involved in the incident turned out to be in hot water after Navarro detailed what transpired on the night he was attacked.

Deniece Milinette Cornejo and Cedric Lee became the subject on social media after their names were revealed by Navarro.

‘It’s Showtime’ Hosts Survived 6 Controversies

Even prior to Vhong Navarro‘s mauling incident, other “It’s Showtime” mainstays have survived issues and controversies involving them in the past year.

From Navarro being accused of attempted rape, Anne Curtis’ slapping incident to Vice Ganda’s controversial concert segment, co-hosts of “It’s Showtime” have managed to move on from controversies they were respectively involved in in the last year.

However, Vice Ganda on Tuesday reacted about this apparent streak of challenges.

“Magkakasama man kami sa isang programa o hindi, meron at meron namang mangyayaring magaganda at hindi magaganda sa aming lahat,” he said. “Nagkataon lang na nagkasama-sama kami. Hindi kasi ako naniniwala sa gano’n, e.”

The comedian also stressed that there is a reason in everything that they are going through.

“Lahat ng ito ay may dahilan kung bakit nangyayari. At hindi lang naman sa amin, sa ibang tao nangyayari rin naman ‘yan. Nagkataon lang na magkakagrupo kami,” he added.

Recently, Navarro has similarly gotten the support of his colleagues as he continues to recover from a mauling incident last January 22.

Navarro, host of the show since 2009, underwent reconstructive nose surgery last Monday, claimed that he was a victim of extortion, and that he was blindfolded and tied up before being attacked by at least six men led by businessman Cedric Lee.

However, Model Deniece Cornejo, the woman who claimed that Navarro attempted to rape her inside a condominium unit in Taguig, stuck to her statement even if the CCTV footage released by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) supported the statement of the “It’s Showtime” host.

Since news of the incident broke two days later on January 24, the remaining hosts on “It’s Showtime” have turned emotional in a number of its live episodes.

“It’s Showtime,” however, has been a way for its hosts to reach out and react to issues involving them. Below are five other recent controversies or challenges that involved the hosts of the show:

1. Ryan Bang’s tax woes

Ryan Bang was involved in tax evasion charges by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) on January 31, 2013. The NBI stated that the former “Pinoy Big Brother” housemate did not file any income or percentage tax returns for 2010 and 2011, even though he received at least P3.05 million in income from several companies including ABS-CBN Corp., Summit Publishing and Studio 23.

Bang swiftly responded to the case, saying he vows to resolve it the soonest possible time. The Korean star’s “It’s Showtime” co-hosts expressed support for him, with Vice Ganda even promising to help him pay his debt to the BIR.

2. Jhong Hilario’s Instagram scandal

It was in April 2013 when a sensitive photo of Jhong Hilario was posted on his Instagram page. The photo shows Hilario in a bathtub wherein he accidentally exposed a part of his body that’s not supposedly be exposed at the popular online photo-sharing website. Although he quickly deleted the image, several websites had already re-posted it.

During the live telecast of “It’s Showtime” the next day, Vice Ganda tried to make light of the situation, joking that anyone who wishes to get a “clear copy” of the photo can get it from him. A laughing Hilario quipped, “Kalokalike lang ‘yon!”

 3. Vice Ganda’s joke on Jessica Soho

Vice Ganda was put in hot water by humoring his fans with vulgar jokes directly pertaining to GMA 7 reporter Jessica Soho in his concert “I-Vice Ganda Mo ‘Ko sa Araneta” last May 17. The comedian had poked fun at Soho’s weight in a sketch about celebrities as “bold stars,” which also mentioned the likes of Kris Aquino, Gus Abelgas and Boy Abunda.

A day later on “It’s Showtime,” Vice Ganda took some 10 minutes to address the situation. He related that he immediately called Soho to apologize after her statement came out, but was supposedly turned down by the veteran newscaster. Explaining why he had to take the matter on “It’s Showtime,” Vice Ganda said it would be best to say sorry in public so it would reach Soho. Soho, later on the same day, “acknowledged” the comedian’s apology.

4. Kuya Kim Atienza’s illness

Weatherman and “It’s Showtime” co-host Kim Atienza made headlines last October when he revealed that he had been recovering from Guillain Barre syndrome, which is described by WebMD as “a rare, rapidly progressive disorder that consists of inflammation of the nerves causing muscle weakness, sometimes progressing to complete paralysis.”

Atienza’s absence from the noontime show coincided with its fourth anniversary celebration, where he was originally set to perform with Vice Ganda. In a taped message, Atienza said his condition has only gotten better, adding he was set to return soon. Atienza resumed his hosting duties on “It’s Showtime” a month later on November 19.

5. Anne Curtis’ slapping incident

Anne Curtis was grappled with a controversy when she was reportedly involved in an embarrassing confrontation with John Lloyd Cruz where she slapped the actor and two others at a bar in The Fort, Taguig. Model-host Phoemela Baranda was also reported to be a subject of Curtis’ ire at the time. She later went on record to clarify that Curtis never said anything to the effect of the now-infamous line, “I can buy you, your friends and this club!”

When the report surfaced two weeks after the actual incident, Curtis was quick to apologize on Twitter to her fans for “disappointing” them. A day later on December 2, an unfazed Curtis appeared on “It’s Showtime” where she urged viewers to move on, as the parties involved already have.

6. Billy Crawford and Coleen Garcia

Since Billy Crawford broke up with his 5-year girlfriend Nikki Gil, rumors have been circulating about Crawford’s supposed romantic link with Coleen Garcia. A photo made rounds online showing Crawford and Garcia together at Brooklyn’s Barclay Arena watching the Nets vs Bucks. The game happened to be on December 27, just two days after Christmas.

After the controversial photo of him and Garcia together in New York went viral online, Crawford finally set the records straight, hoping this will put an end to accusations about him and Garcia. Crawford admitted that he is currently courting Garcia in an interview on “Buzz ng Bayan” in January this year.

Defending his newly found love, Crawford said that Garcia was never the reason behind his break-up with his relationship with former girlfriend, who reportedly regrets her relationship with Crawford.

The confession became a subject of teasing on “It’s Showtime” the next day. Crawford and Garcia continues to regularly co-host the program, notably without a hint of their off-screen relationship.

Vhong Navarro Laughs at Vice Ganda Jokes on ‘Showtime’

“It’s Showtime” host Vice Ganda admitted that his co-host Vhong Navarro laughs every time he would crack jokes involving the mauling incident last January 22.

Last Saturday, while interviewing a “That’s My Tomboy” contestant , Vice Ganda asked a “current events” question.

“Sa palagay mo, kung iimbitahan ka, pupunta ka ba sa condo ni Deniece?” he said, triggering laughs from the audience.

Referring to the “Annaliza” star he quickly added, ”Laurel! Laurel!”

Another instance was when a contestant in “I Am Pogay” mentioned “safety” when asked to relate a bird cage to life for the question-and-answer portion.

“For safety! Naku, sabi ko na nga ba, Vhong, dapat nagdala ka ng hawla,” Vice Ganda said in jest on Tuesday, as he ran to the side of the stage, laughing.

With these, Vice Ganda explained that Navarro himself asked his “It’s Showtime” family to make him laugh.

“Sige papatawanin kita at araw-araw ikaw ang gagawin kong subject sa joke ko.”

“‘Yun ang request niya, ‘patawanin niyo ako.’ Kaya sabi ko, ‘Sige papatawanin kita at araw-araw ikaw ang gagawin kong subject sa joke ko.’ So pinapatawa ko siya. Tawa lang siya ng tawa,” the comedian said on ABS-CBN News on Wednesday.

“Hindi naman namin ginagawa ito para gumanti. Ginagawa namin ito para gumaan ang sitwasyon kasi as it is ay malungkot na kami sa ‘Showtime’ sa nangyari kay Vhong,” he continued.

“Pero hindi kami pwedeng magpa-overpower sa lungkot kasi as it is malungkot nga. ‘Yung mga nanonood sa kanilang bahay may mga pinagdadaanan din ‘yan. Kung palulungkutin namin sila ng palulungkutin parang di namin mase-serve ang purpose ng show namin.

“Ang core ng ‘Showtime’ dapat laging happy kasi we want the madlang people happy,” he explained.

Vice Ganda also updated the fans of his co-host, who was beaten by the group of businessman Cedric Lee after model Deniece Cornejo claimed that Navarro tried to rape her in her condominium unit in Taguig last month.

“Si Vhong patuloy ang recovery niya kaya maging masaya tayong lahat pero matagal pa ito matatapos,” Vice Ganda said. “Pero patuloy lang natin ang pagdarasal natin kay Vhong para sa hustisya para sa pangyayaring ito.”

Asked if he believes that Navarro will get justice for what happened, the comedian replied: “Justice will be served. Hindi natin alam kung kailan pero, oo, justice will be served.”

‘Let’s move forward’

The “Girl Boy Bakla Tomboy” star believes the public is slowly moving on from the controversy.

Kaya it’s time to move forward. Gawin na nating light,” the comedian said.

Vice Ganda admitted that some fans and even those working in the network have expressed concern about his jokes.

“Sinasabihan din ako ng management na ‘okay ‘yan pero hanggang diyan lang, hanggang ganito lang.’ Alam ko din naman ang limitasyon. Ito ay ginagawa namin hindi para gumanti, hindi. Gusto lang namin na mapagaan ‘yung pangyayari at makapagpasaya. At natutuwa kami na madami ang positibo ang pagtanggap sa biruan namin,” he said.

“It’s Showtime” host Vice Ganda continued to joke about the mauling incident involving co-host Vhong Navarro, this time spoofing a recent interview of model Deniece Cornejo on GMA-7′s “Startalk.”

During the “I Am Pogay” segment on February 5, the comedian spoofed parts of the interview as he feigned an argument with co-host Kim Atienza.

Mimicking Cornejo’s hand gestures, Vice Ganda acted out statements made by the now-controversial model, including Navarro being “makapangyarihan” or powerful, and how she will continue praying for the actor amid their legal battle.

Later in the same segment, Vice Ganda acted out a phone conversation alluding to details of the mauling incident, which allegedly involved Navarro being invited by Cornejo to her unit.

Interviewing a second “I Am Pogay” contestant, the comedian went on to make a joke that apparently shocked co-host Anne Curtis. Making a word play on Merger, a brand mentioned by the contestant, Vice Ganda said Navarro was almost “murdered.”

The comedian also drew laughs for referring to Navarro as a “panda,” referring to facial injuries he sustained from the attack.

On the other hand, Vice Ganda explained that Navarro himself asked his “It’s Showtime” family to make him laugh.

“‘Yun ang request niya, ‘patawanin niyo ako.’ Kaya sabi ko, ‘Sige papatawanin kita at araw-araw ikaw ang gagawin kong subject sa joke ko.’ So pinapatawa ko siya. Tawa lang siya ng tawa,” the comedian said on ABS-CBN News on Wednesday.
