Some comedians are concerned about the suggestion of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) to start up a “comedy academy” in the country.

Vice Ganda, who is recently in hot water for offending broadcast journalist Jessica Soho over his jokes, said he is not interested on the idea of persuading an institute where comedians would have to attend classes.

ABS-CBN producers along with the comedian recently complied with the meeting on Wednesday together with the MTRCB Board for a discussion on how to properly handly “comedy bar humor.”

Meanwhile, another comedian reacted about the issue. For comedienne Giselle Sanchez, she said that it is not necessary to put up a “comedy academy.”

Sanchez added that comedians are intelligent people who can practice self-censorship.

“Halos lahat ng komedyante matatalino. Kaya naman namin ang self-censorship. Hindi naman siguro ako tatagal ng more than 20 years sa comedy kung hindi namin ine-exercise ang self-censorship. Chairman Toto, huwag niyo na ilagay ang comedy school,” she pleaded.

The concern of putting up a “comedy academy” was echoed by actress Anne Curtis, who has already worked with numerous comedians in her current and past projects.

“It’s a gift to have that kind of timing. But if it’s like a coming out workshop with the MTRCB lang, eh ‘di sige,” she said.
